Welcome

Nathan Liverant and Son has been actively dealing in Eighteenth and Nineteenth Century American furniture, paintings, silver, glass and related accessories since 1920.  We specialize in fine examples of Connecticut and New England furniture and decorative arts made prior to 1840.  Acquisitions from our large inventory of quality antiques are represented in most major museums and private collections across the country.

Owner, Arthur Liverant, is a third generation antiques dealer.  He is the son of Zeke Liverant and grandson of Nathan, who founded the business more than 90 years ago. For the past 60 years Nathan Liverant and Son Antiques has been located in a former Baptist meeting house on South Main Street in Colchester, Connecticut. Arthur is joined in the business by his wife Gigi, associates Kevin Tulimieri,  Kate Rounds, and Debbie Day.

Our goal at Nathan Liverant and Son is to provide a fair value to our customers, whether you are buying or selling antiques.  We value our reputation and guarantee all items in our inventory as represented.

We are continually on the quest and welcome an opportunity to purchase antiques similar to the quality shown on our web site. All inquiries are met with a prompt response and are treated with complete confidentiality.

Invitation to Learn!
Free Seminars, Wine & Cheese too!

The public is invited to join Nathan Liverant and Son, LLC for a series of Free “Invitation to Learn” Seminars, exploring all aspects of American Antiques and Collectibles.  Continuing this Spring, we will be hosting a series of casual Saturday afternoon seminars to view, examine, discuss, dissect and inspect American Furniture and Decorative Arts.  As a “Teaching Shop”, we enjoy nothing more than sharing ideas and engaging others in the fine points of Americana.  The Invitation to Learn seminars will be a hands-on experience where the group will be able to fully examine furniture, turn over paintings, inspect silver, study stoneware, peruse porcelain and examine the inside, outside, topside and bottom-side of a wide variety of antiques and vintage collectibles.

Each session will feature introductory discussions for those new to collecting, at the same time we will be addressing more advanced topics where  the fine details of comparative looking and specialized scholarship will be discussed.

The sessions will be led by Arthur Liverant and Kevin Tulimieri and will include examination of the hand made and unique antiques from our inventory as well as from distinguished private collections. This session will also feature a guest lecturer, Amy Finkel, a specialist in needlework, as well as a field trip to Historic Deerfield featuring Phil Zea and Josh Lane.

Inspection techniques, historical context, origins and makers, as well as stories and anecdotes from over 90 years of Seeking and Searching in the world of Americana will all be open for discussion.

Our goal is to provide an open atmosphere where beginners and experts alike can experience the beauty of Americana with a hands-on approach.  We invite everyone to join us for one or more of our Invitation to Learn Seminars.  Open to all and Free to the Public, come for the opportunity to learn, meet other collectors or just for the wine and the now famous, Cato Corner cheese.

"The forums continue this Spring at Nathan Liverant and Son, LLC in the second series of free public Antiques and Americana 101 forums.
